The ris-ras rugs were born from the urge to address the elimination of a serious environmental pollutant: cigarette butts. A single butt can contaminate 10 litres of salt water and around 50 litres of fresh water, making it the most common waste found in our seas and oceans—surpassing even plastic. However, it also represents a resource with a wide range of potential uses. It’s not only versatile but can also be transformed from waste into a long-lasting product.
The result of the upcycling process is a series of doormats designed to clean your shoes before entering the home. We turn what once polluted into something that now cleans—ris-ras. And at the same time, we extend the life of a material once considered waste.
